Module 1 Feelings and impressions
Unit 1 it smells delicious
It’s my great honor to have this opportunity to interpret my teaching design here. The topic of this lesson is “It smells delicious”. I will interpret my teaching design from the following parts: teaching material students and so on.
Analysis of teaching material
Firstly, please allow me to talk about the analysis of teaching material. This lesson is from the unit 1 of module 1 of FLTRP English book of middle school grade 9. And the main topic of this lesson is how to describe delicious food. This lesson is the first section of this module, so it’s very important for students’ further study.
Analysis of students
The second part is the analysis of students. Students in junior school are generally interested in English. They have strong curiosity and thirst for knowledge. The simple repetition of the text evaluates themselves according to others’ opinions on them. So they are pretty care about others’ evaluation.
Analysis of teaching aims
Based on the analysis of N. C. S, I set the following 3 aims:
Knowledge aim: Ss will learn some useful words and expressions: smell, taste, soft, sweet, it smells/tastes…
Ability aim: Emotional aim: Ss will become much more intrested in learning English, and not afraid of speaking English.
Teaching key points and difficult points
According to the analysis of teaching material and students and teaching aims, I want to put forward the teaching key points and difficult points
Key points:
Students can understand the meaning of the words and can recognize them in the listening material/ dialogue.
Difficult points:
Students can use the key words and sentence structures to describe their idea and can use to communicate with their classmates freely.
Teaching procedures
Now let’s move on to the most important part: teaching procudure. It’s divided into 5 steps:
Step1: warming-up
In this step, after greeting with my Ss, I’ll show some pictures of food, like cake, banana, meat etc. on PPT, and then ask them a question like this: “Boys and girls, which food do you like best in these pics, and why do you like it?” They may say:”I like cake because it’s soft and sweet.”
Purpose: Attract their interest by the food they like.
Step2:Pre-listening
Show the 4 pics in the text book, and ask them to have a free talk and try to predict what we will learn in this lesson.
Purpose: To practice their predicting ability.
Step3: While-listening
There’re mainly 2 activities: extensive listening and intensive listening. Divide the whole class into 4 groups.
In extensive listening stage: play the video for the 1st time, and encourage them try to get the main idea.
Purpose: students can grasp the key words in this dialogue and can summarize it quickly
In intensive stage: Play the video again and ask them try to listen carefully and then finish the chart on the Bb as follows:
Purpose: Students can get the detailed information through listening and they can search the information from the dialogue quickly and correctly so that their listening ability will be improved.

The winner group will get one star, and the failure group will get some encouragement.
Then play the video for the 3rd time, and ask the Ss to readt after it, and I’ll pay more attention to their pronunciation and intonation.
Purpose: In this ways students will make good preparation for the following speaking activities.
Step4: Post-listening
Ask Ss make a dialogue with the information in the above chart, like this:
---what’s your favourite food?
---It’s meat.
--why do you like it?
---It tastes delicous!
And then perform it.
Purpose: Can consolidate the words and sentence structure.
Step5: Summary and Homework
I’d like to ask one student to be my assistant to review what we have learned today, and then make a summary together. The purpose of this part is to help Ss recall what we have learned today.
Here comes homework: ask them to survey what their parents’ favourite foods are, and describe it with the expressions we learnt in this lesson and share it in the next class. According to different ability levels, I will present compulsory work and optional work. The compulsory work: make conversations according to the dialogue of the textbook. The optional task: they can do a survey by using the sentence structures in the dialogue. The purpose of the home work is to review the key sentences we learnt today. It could provide students chances to practice speaking after class and promote the communicating ability of students. It can also meet different needs of different students.
Blackboard design
Lastly, let’s talk about the analysis of the blackboard design. I will design my blackboard as follows, this could help my students to understand the important information of this lesson clearly.
